In court, inBody was found to be misleading customers with statements that inBody units do not use predictive equations and estimations.
The Big Lie
inBody argued in court, that there are two parts to a BIA.
MEASUREMENT & ASSESSMENT
The MEASUREMENT, according to inBody's argument, is the part where you stand on the scale and get your weight and impedance values from the test. The ASSESSMENT, according to inBody is the interpretation of the data.
inBody acknowledged that they DO USE EQUATIONS AND ESTIMATIONS for the "ASSESSMENT" portion or the interpretation of the data.
The Bottom Line: No matter what you buy, the data is analyzed using estimates and equations. There is no way around it. Data has to be compared to something to provide accurate results.
Despite losing the lawsuit, inBody continues to mislead unwitting consumers.
ALL BIA UNITS USE PREDICTIVE EQUATIONS AND ESTIMATIONS. FULL STOP.
All companies have their own proprietary algorithms, data and patents.
Any salesperson that makes a claim to know information about another company's algorithm (study populations etc..) is not being truthful. This is proprietary information that would not be disclosed. Ask your representative how they know this information.
Inexperienced sales people may claim that a company holds a "patent on the technology" when they the company really only holds a patent on a very small piece of the product, like a thumb placement, for example.
The US government does not verify the accuracy or quality of the information contained in the patent.
