PREDICTIVE EQUATIONS AND ESTIMATIONS
There are 2 parts to a body composition analysis, MEASUREMENT & ASSESSMENT
--------
MEASUREMENT
Measurements are EMPIRICAL DATA, they do not use equations. Examples of emperical data are height and weight. Those are not estimated and what some companies refer to when they say estimations aren't used.
-------
ASSESSMENT
Assessment is the interpretation of the data.
Under ANY circumstance, equations are used to interpret the data. When a BCA is completed the internal report is electrical information in Ohms That information is interpreted into data you see on the report. Accuniq's Body Compostions have repeatedly been tested and can boast a 1-2% accuracy to the gold standard of DEXA.
ALGORITHMS
All companies have their own proprietary algorithms, data and patents. These are top secret. This is what is used to intpret the empirical data.
PATENTS
Most companies that sell BIA have some form of patent on their products. Patents are for the design of the product, not accuracy. The US government does not verify the accuracy or quality of the information contained in the patent.
COMPARING ACCURACY
The most scientific way to compare accuracy is NOT BCA to BCA but BCA to a DEXA SCAN. Aquniq models routinely fall within 2% of DEXA.
